Apple has officially introduced AirPods Max 2, the second generation of its premium over-ear headphones. The new model is powered by Apple’s H2 chip and brings significant upgrades in active noise cancellation, sound quality, and intelligent audio features.
The announcement marks Apple’s biggest update to the AirPods Max lineup since the original version debuted, aiming to deliver a more immersive listening experience and smarter interaction features.

Powered by Apple’s H2 Chip
At the core of the new headphones is Apple’s H2 chip, which enables advanced computational audio processing. This chip powers several improvements, including better noise cancellation, improved transparency mode, and intelligent audio features that adapt to the user’s environment.
According to Apple, the new model delivers up to 1.5× more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) than the previous generation. This helps block environmental sounds like airplane engines or train noise more effectively, allowing users to focus on music, calls, or work.
Improved Sound Quality and Spatial Audio
AirPods Max 2 also introduces a new high dynamic range amplifier, designed to produce cleaner and more detailed sound while maintaining the signature audio quality of the original AirPods Max.
The headphones support Personalized Spatial Audio, delivering a more immersive listening experience with improved instrument separation, richer bass, and clearer mids and highs.
Lower wireless latency also improves performance in gaming scenarios, making audio responses faster and more synchronized with gameplay.
New Intelligent Audio Features
Thanks to the H2 chip, AirPods Max 2 introduces several smart capabilities previously seen in other AirPods models:
Adaptive Audio – automatically adjusts noise cancellation and transparency depending on surroundings
Conversation Awareness – lowers media volume when the user starts speaking with someone nearby
Voice Isolation – improves clarity during calls by filtering background noise
Live Translation – allows real-time language translation during conversations (availability depends on region and language)
These features aim to make the headphones more context-aware and useful beyond traditional listening scenarios.
New Colors and Availability
AirPods Max 2 will be available in five colors:
Midnight
Starlight
Orange
Purple
Blue
Apple says the headphones will be available for pre-order starting March 25, with retail availability beginning early next month.
Apple is also positioning the headphones as tools for creators, podcasters, and musicians. The new model supports features such as studio-quality audio recording and camera remote control, opening up new use cases beyond personal listening.
