Introduction
Join IBM as an SRE Linux Systems Engineer and be crucial in managing QA, customer test, and production Linux systems within the IBM Sterling Data Exchange environments. This role involves ensuring compliance, enhancing security, and implementing necessary changes in alignment with ITIL processes. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand complex systems issues and resolve them effectively.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, analyze, and apply configuration templates to network components.
- Define and develop technology testing records, software inventory and upgrades, hardware inventory, and network design diagrams.
- Stay current on technical advancements and contribute to technical knowledge development.
- Gather and interpret information from customers and customer facilities for project requirements.
- Determine specialized tools and equipment for analyzing customer networks and deducing root causes of network symptoms.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 5+ years of experience managing Linux/Redhat in a production environment.
- Proficiency in system build, configuration management, and operating system troubleshooting practices.
- Experience with authentication and access control configuration and management.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in network and protocol subsystems.
- Ensure and maintain security compliance standards.
- Utilize standard management tools such as Ansible, bash scripting, Perl, and python.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Engineering Skills
- Inventory management automation support.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-platform teams.
- Fundamentals of application and database operations to support teams.
- Ability to manage outage situations and expectations between groups.
- Identify underlying issues in CPU, memory, disk, network, and other areas.
- Patch management and compliance standards for operating systems.
- Support and manage an enterprise monitoring solution.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide level-3 support and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Support a 24/7 commercial environment with a rapid response and problem escalation posture.
- Create and update SOP and procedural documentation as needed.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies.
- Follow standard business processes for work requests and system update procedures.
Preferred Technical And Professional Expertise
- Experience with Openshift/Kubernetes.
- RHCE certification.
- RHCSA Certification.
