Join the Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, the driving force behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure, powering the "Intelligent Cloud" mission. SCHIE is responsible for delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for over 200 online businesses, including Azure, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, and more. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the innovation of firmware technology, securing Azure infrastructure for Microsoft and its customers.
Responsibilities
- Own coordination, integration, validation, and debugging of system software components in cloud data centers (Servers, Racks, BMC).
- Take responsibility for end-to-end triage, debug, root-cause analysis, and fixing of firmware issues across the server fleet.
- Apply a system-level perspective to validate integrated firmware/system software, aligning with architectural goals.
- Develop validation plans, automate and execute test cases, and debug/triage observed or reported failures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills for OS-based platforms.
- Good understanding of OS and device drivers.
- Hands-on experience in programming with Python, C, or C++.
- 8+ years of experience in design & architecture, development, testing, release, and performance tuning.
- Experience with platform initialization, Board Support Package (UEFI/U-Boot), and low-level drivers for peripherals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in system-level integration, validation, automation framework (e.g., Robot Framework), and debugging of system software.
- Experience in firmware validation/development in the server space is a significant plus.
- Experience creating firmware validation test plans, developing test content, and automating test execution.
- Familiarity with automated testing pipelines (CI/CD) and firmware development/testing on multiple hardware test environments (FPGA, Emulation, Simulation).
- Knowledge of hardware debuggers like JTAG, Oscilloscope, and Logic Analyzer.
- Excellent communication and inter-team collaboration skills.
