Hello,
I am confused among why we should go for .net. if we compare
1. in .net we have framework but in php we also have good frameworks
2. in .net we have lot of languages (but as a student... at a time we can learn one language, normally we don't work with multiple languages)
3. in case of costing ... in php we have free hosting
4. according to survey http://w3techs.com/technologies/overview/programming_language/all
most of the websites are in php
5. platform independence - php and java. in case of .net we mostly work on windows
etc...
i just need a strong point because if a student have three options :- .net, java, php then for what he/she should go
Why a student should go for .NET

To answer your question is for me, .NET is very simple, user friendly, and it is the cool language. :)

Because, while recruiting the freshers, the employer looks how good you are in programming concepts & logical thinking. They may ask you some basic concepts on languages [c or c++ or C# which ever YOU like] and DB. They wont expect you to be an expert on .Net or PHP or Java.
If you are asking this on Learning point of view, learn every thing which you LIKE. Because, Each languages has its won advantages and disadvantages.
Project Managers/Clients should think about choosing the technologies/languages :)

let me clarify you. In my opinion any language you learn just learn in depth, I know many students who are really confused first they will go for .net then Java then oracle etc. instead of knowing all those it is always better choose only one chapter and put all your effort and dedication on that. Coming to choosing language it depends upon your interest you can take up, each language has their own pros and cons.
But if you want to know about .NET then I can say.
1. Using .NET you can build both windows and web application.
2. Choose c# or VB.NET, actually both are same only keywords different.
3. Learn ASP.NET if you are interested for web application, ASP.NET is a platform to develop web application for which you need C# or VB.NET as language option.
4. You will find lot more cool stuff if you explore this.
hope it helps you
