Ques : What is garbage collection? What is the process that is responsible for doing that in java?

Garbage collection means reclaiming the heap memory which a Java object was occupying, when the object is no longer needed.

The process which recycles memory in this way is known (logically enough) as the garbage collector and is run automatically by the JVM, as and when required, on a daemon thread.
