I want to have my web service, that works on a timer to do a process every couple hours, be able to be stopped and started remotely. Is there a way to track the thread and then call thread. abort when needed on that thread?

Web services don't do any job by themselves. Someone HAS to call them. So, do you have a timered "client" application that invokes the service?
