True Platform Independence?

I don't think anyone has ever claimed that .Net code is platform independant. There are a few projects out that are working on non-Windows versions of the CLR, but that doesn't truly meet the standard for platform independant. And to be honest, even Java, who boasts the WORA (write once, run anywhere) motto, is only platform independant on a limited basis. The whole idea of this is a bit far-fetched. There is no way to be able to write a good mainframe app and expect it to run seamlesslly on your cell phone. It just isn't practical. As for now, Microsoft isn't overly concerned with making sure .Net apps can run outside of the Microsoft family, they don't see that as a limiting feature. -James
