Try calling this function. Pass the listbox and a flag to indicate if you want it sorted in descending order. private void SortListbox (ListBox lb, bool decending) { SortedList mySL = new SortedList(); foreach (Object O in lb.Items) { mySL.Add(O.ToString(), O); } lb.BeginUpdate(); lb.Items.Clear(); if (decending) { for (int ele = mySL.Count; ele > 0; ele--) { lb.Items.Add(mySL.GetByIndex(ele-1)); } } else { foreach (DictionaryEntry O in mySL) { lb.Items.Add(O.Value); } } lb.EndUpdate(); } That will do the trick. And it doesn't matter what type of object you originally added to the listbox.

Sure... I think the easiest way would be to use the .Lines property to retreive an array of strings. Then sort it in the array (do you know how to sort arrays? It's fairly easy!) Then, use the .Lines property again to set the lines.
