.NET is a framework for the Windows OS. No real emphasis on being cross-platform, but it does an excellent job of making a programmer's life easier with its libraries. Java is a virtual machine paired up with a library similar to that of the .NET Framework, but the emphasis in java is on cross-platform compatibility. .NET : Making programmer's lives easier. Java : Compile once, run (almost) everywhere, and making life easier as a quirk.

I think : .Net in Windows os. java in other os. you need compare with two operation system.
