Stateless session

Well, HTTP is a stateless protocol and so ASP.NET needs a mechanism for persisting session variables between round trips to the server. The mechanism is known as session state and allows you store variable values as key/value pairs for the duration of the session and then retrieve them using their keys. For example:

Session["Name"] = "Eddie";

// retrieve

string name = (string)Session["Name"];
