Sql Server 2005 connection problem

Hi people,
I m new to sql. I have developed C# desktop application. On my computer SQL Server 2005 is working fine. I have installed sql server 2005 management studio on client computer.
When i open it, it gives windows which ask SERVER NAME.
By clicking on server name drop down menu, does not show any server name. Nothing shows in browse for server.
Upto my understanding server name is the same name as computer name before backslash then sqlexpress.
E.g abc\sqlexpress

When i give this server name. Error show 'network related instance occured'

Plz help me, i m unable to connect to sql server

It is not possible to say for sure what tyhe problem was, but it might be that you just needed to start SQL Server.
