or you can check if Search is configured properly by going to central admin -> search.

looks like search service is not connected to the Web app.

Please check this. go to central admin > application managemnet> Manage Web Application...Click on the web application and from the ribbon click on Service Connection. On this popup make sure Search service Application check box is checked.
