Scavenging Concept in DOT.NET

'Scavenging' means removing items from a cache when memory is scarce.

This mechanism is used in ASP.NET which supports both application and page output caching for storing volatile data in memory.

If memory gets low, then data can be removed from the cache to free up space. Data which hasn't been used for some time and has a low-priority is usually removed first. However, you can set an item's priority to a higher level when it is added to the cache to avoid it being scavenged first.
