you are returning list to the textbox, you need to return the first value retrieveTb3.Text = (dc.TextBox3s.Select(c => c.textvalue)).FirstOrDefault()+"."; as query will return only one value that may help to resolve your issue

use FirstOrDefault instead of First. First raises a null exception if there is no record whereas FirstOrDefault return null value
