Here is a example you can do it in less code by missing the trys out but the CINT can cause an exception if it is not a valid number. You could also format the textbox three text if you wanted but displaying a integer is OK. Code: dim iVal1, iVal2 as integer try iVal1 = cint(me.textbox1.text) catch Messagebox.show("Textbox1 must be numeric!") exit sub end try try iVal2 = cint(me.textbox2.text) catch Messagebox.show("Textbox2 must be numeric!") exit sub end try textbox3.text = iVal1 + iVal2 You might want to get a VB book, Begining VB.NET 2nd Edition by wrox is quite good. Because Text is a string and you are simply concatenating the two strings together. What you need to do is declare two number variables in the textbox3 procedure and convert each of the two texts into numbers. Then you can add the two numbers together. You will also have to convert the number back into a string to display.
