I tried to understand but could understand it, neither the syntax nor the purpose of it.

Accepted answer
Just take simple example
1 Employee belongs to 1 department (inner Join) (employee.DeptId,Department.Id)
1 Department have (many) Employees (Group Join) (Department.Id,employee.DepartmentID)

always use lambda syntax over sql like syntax while performing group join
var join = Departments.GroupJoin(Employees, department => department .Id, employee => employee.DepId, (dept, EGroup) => new
            {
              DepartmentName=dept.Name,

               Employee= EGroup
            });
