keypress event with function keys

Why is it that some events WON'T fire even if they are listed as an event for that control? I posted a problem in the Windows Forms forum that discusses my problem in detail. But it is similar to these questions you have posted. For example I am trying to have a leave(OnLeave) event fire when I Leave the object(in this case a text box that is part of a grid of textboxes acting like a control). When I leave the textbox Nothing happens. I can get the change text event to fire when I change the value in the box, but I want a leave event to fire when the user has clicked or tabbed to a different field or moved to another textbox. I want an event to fire AFTER the user has finished entering their value, not do anything while they are entering data. Any advice about this would be great. P.S. recently I also tried overriding the event, but that has not proved successful.

Your first problem is that you are using the KEYPRESS event. This only captures keys that have a specified value or display (alpha-numeric, delete, return, etc). The keypress event, however, does NOT fire when you press the shift, control or function (F1-F12) keys. In order to do this, you will have to use the keydown or keyup event. private void txtMyTxt_KeyDown(object sender, System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine(e.KeyValue); } This will return a number (112 - 124 for F1 to F12 keys). There may be a better way, but at least that will get you over the hump.
