To get the count for a given day, you can use the below code:

$('#calendar').fullCalendar( 'clientEvents', function(event){
   if (event.start=='2017-11-30')) {
      return true;
   } else {
      return false;
   }
}).length;

PS Not sure if you initiated the fullCalendar in your original code, but in this one, I do not see events mapped.
