Is it possible to do POST operation in httpget method?

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to do POST operation using httpget method in webapi.

Hi Prabhu,

Answer to your qustion. Yes we can do post operation in Get method. But Ideal scenario we should follow HTTP verbs and REST principles while working with API.

There are two main reson not to do above thing are,

Get Method is less secire then post method becaise GET as method for post is not good idea for sensitive information like username, password etc.

One More thing to note here is POST we can tranform a larger amount of information than GET. 'POST' has no size restrictions for tranform data while 'GET' has transmit limit up to 2048 characters.

Hi Prabhu

If my understanding is correct, then we cannot post a data to httpget method using httppost.

For example:
[HttpGet]
public ActionResult> Get()
{
return new string[] { "prabhu", "test" };
}
This action method cannot be called using httppost verb. If you call you will receive following error.

Yes, it is possible to do post operation in HTTP get method.

Use post for destructive actions such as creation, editing, and deleting because you can't hit a post action in the address bar of your browser.

POST is also more secure than GET, because you aren't sticking information into a URL. And so using GET as the method for an html form that collects a password or other sensitive information is not the best idea.

Yes its is possible only you can send limited data in HTTPGet , and it will send data as query string parameter.

Yes what u can do create a separate method with same return type as get method and return the httpget method in the newly created method as post.
