how install microsoft office interop excel dll ?

Microsoft is often unclear in their documentation. We should try to be clear. Since testing programs that use Excel Interop require a license for the system used for testing, it really helps to state that explicitly.

Well, for me, development includes testing but I'll concede that you can write the interop code and build it on the development machine without Excel being installed, as long as you don't test it :)

I clearly mentioned for development you don't need excel installed.

But if you want to use (which includes testing) you must have excel installed.

I stand by what I said earlier about not being able to use the Excel Interop libraries unless you have Excel installed on the same machine.

The primary interop assemblies downloads which I mentioned ablove should allow office development. Typically the PIAs are installed automatically when you install Office on the development computer. But if you don't want to install office that is the download you should use.

Are you sure that the download will allow development of Office applications without Office being installed? I assume not but I might be wrong.

Please don't ignore that Vulpes said "you need to have a version of Excel installed".

If you're using Visual Studio, right click on 'references' in Solution Explorer and then select Add Reference from the drop down menu.

Now, on the COM tab, navigate to Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library (or whatever is the latest version on your machine) and OK it.

It also makes like easier if you add this line to your project's using directives:

using Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel;

Notice that you need to have a version of Excel installed on your machine to use the interop library.

Hi Abdu,

No need to install anything..just select Project->add Reference and select the required dll.
