Indian date time in asp.net c#

Hi,

in c# if we mention like DateTime.UtcNow it will take US date time but i need IST indian Date Time ?

There is one more benefit of using GetUtcDate() function. The GetDate() function will return date time according to the Date Time settings done in Regional settings of the computer.

Assume your current hosting is in US and you use GetDate() then all your date times will be as per US timing. Now further assume you moved your hosting to India then all your date times will be Indian (assuming Indian Regional settings are applied). Then you have all the date times which are mismatching.

You never run into this problem with GetUtcDate() function. Because anywhere in the world it will return same value at same time. Hope it helps!

You didn't mention, if you are writing an application which is aimed at international audience. If yes, you are better of using GetUtcDate(), because you can perform operations to arrive at any timezone.

Even otherwise, I suggest you use GetUtcDate() and store that in tables. Perform addition of 330 minutes at select level when you are returning data to client. This way your system remains flexible to future changes. You can even keep off-sets in table and pick from there so that it is not hard coded anywhere.

we have to write in storedprocedure like this DATEadd(minute, 330,GetUTCdate())by default it will take IST indian Date time

If you ask for DateTime.UtcNow, you will get UTC date time which means it is GMT, which means it is Greenwich Mean Time and Greenwich is in London, UK and not US.

For all international applications, UTC is the best time to use because it can be converted to the time in any timezone in the world.

There are two ways to go. You can get UTC and add 330 minutes (5 hours and 30 minutes) to get Indian Time as India's off-set to GMT is +05:30.

Or you can change the datetime setting of your computer and use DateTime.Now which will return Indian Time (not recommended).

There might be other ways to achieve it too!
