Thanks guys. I actually like my solution. Deriving from controls to create your own controls is fun and what OOP is all about.

Leeb, sure you have not, because these are not server controls but ordinary (well, not ordinary but on-the-fly created DOM controls) client-side HTML "tags".

here's how in Javascript: var oLink = document.createElement('A'); var oImg = document.createElement('IMG'); oImg.id = 'myImg'; oImg.align = 'left'; oLink.id = 'myID'; oLink.appendChild(oImg); document.form1.appendChild(oLink); I have found you can add any attributes you like using this method, i.e. oImg.size = '50'; This will add an attribute of size="50" to your image tag. This code will add the control to your form, the only problem is I have not found a way to access the controls from the CodeBehind.

I didn't think it was possible, I was just checking. What I ended up doing is creating my own control that derives from HyperLink and adding an Image control variable there that is exposed through a property. And then when I render my control, I take care of all those things I needed to.

I don't think it's possible. Did you try to create IMG control on the fly and add it to Controls collection of your hyperlink? I'm sorry, I don't have ASP.NET at my hands now so I can't try it myself.
