how to use localhost??

i have another problem sir..

when i run program locally it gives correct answer.. when i run on IIS it gives error...

error when download the excel page.... the error is 

The remote procedure call failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BE)

localhost will take only the current path (folder). if you are running from IIS, then it will take virtual directory not the your physical path.

my program in f:/abc/ab/programname
when i run the program, localhost/programname comes?
why it not takes localhost/f/abc/ab/programename   ?

When you use the ASP.NET Development Server to run a file-system Web site, by default, the Web server is invoked on a randomly selected port for localhost.

The number in url is port number.

You can change this number following below steps:

1. In Solution Explorer, click the name of the application.
2. In the Properties pane, click the down-arrow beside Use dynamic ports and select False from the dropdown list.
3. This will enable editing of the Port number property.
4. In the Properties pane, click the text box beside Port number and type in a port number.
5. Click outside of the Properties pane. This saves the property settings.
6. Each time you run a file-system Web site within Visual Web Developer, the ASP.NET Development Server will listen on the specified port.
   
   
   

   So, when running a browser on your machine you type: http://localhost (no port number), what does IIS do?

   
   

   Per previous replies the browser converts localhost to 127.0.0.1 as the IP address and constructs an HTTP request for that IP address. The host header will be localhost.
   
   You can configure IIS too to use port number.

Hi,
        When you run your application locally (i.e. by press F5 or view in browser) that time it will assign portnumber automatically. since it uses Visual Studio Development server instead of your local IIS. This port number you can set for each application by setting the value assign port under Web->Servers.
