how to install WPFtoolkit

hello..

i want to use WPF ..

I have never use WPF so.. its totally new for me..

i want to install wpf toolkit in my computer.. I have VS2005 + .net framework 3.5 ..

i download two zips from : http://wpf.codeplex.com/releases/view/40535

and follow the instruction that given there..

---> i install first the WPFtoolkit.msi..

--->then i tried to add WPFToolkit.Design.dll to the toolbox..

but it gives error :

Am i following wrong steps.. then please tell me..

or tell me why this error is coming..?

hi @John Wiese i have same problem but my OS is window 7 64 bit and vs 2008 3.5 how can i add wcf toolkit or which version of toolkit used

i follow all this instructions..

its some what difficult problem..

bt after searching finally i found the solution from:

and it worked :)

Looking at your initial post again I noticed something else. You are trying to add the DLL to the toolkit and that is not how it works. You add it as a reference to your project. Here are the steps to get started:

Instructions for using the WPF Toolkit binaries:
1. Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
2. If you have a previous version of WPF Toolkit installed, uninstall it through the Remove Programs dialog on the Control Panel (look for "WPF Toolkit October 2008" or "WPF Toolkit January 2009" or "WPF Toolkit March 2009" or "WPF Toolkit June 2009")
3. Download the WPFToolkit_Binaries or WPFToolkit_BinariesAndSource
4. Run the WPFToolkit.msi to install the WPFToolkit.dll and WPF Toolkit design time binaries to your Program Files folder
5. Reference the binaries in your project:
  
  Reference WPFToolkit.dll in your project
  Add a using statement ("using Microsoft.Windows.Controls;") to the top of .cs files
  Add a new xmlns (for example, xmlns:toolkit="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wpf/2008/toolkit") to the top of XAML files
  
  Remember to use the namespace prefix (in the above example, ) in the body of your XAML
See the step I highlighted, it says to add a reference not add it to the toolbox. This toolkit does not live in the toolbox and is only implemented in code directly.

Could be the same issue, I don't recall if XP SP2 does the same thing for files downloaded from the internet.

I believe you are on either Windows Vista or Windows 7 and seeing a security precaution that the OS takes. Right-click on the zip file you downloaded and go to properties. You should see a button near the bottom right corner to un-block. Click the button, then extract the files from the zip and continue with the install process. Your other option is to go through all the files individually and un-block them.
