May be you should learn quantum mechanics first. In BSC physics you are taught with quantum mechanics from basics. Then you can join MSC with physics and learn more about quantum physics. After than a PHD in physics in Quantum background will be very good for you. Quantum computing engineering does not mean you have to learn computer programming. Google, Microsoft, IBM employs lots of PHD people who have deep knowledge in quantum physics to work with their engineers to develop system like quantum computers and so on.
There a lots of tutorials on youtube in quantum physics like BSC lectures, IIT kanpur, goahati lectures which will definately take you a lot deeper in this subject.
