Maybe Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name is what you are looking for - this gets the name of the user currently logged on to the workstation. How do you want to further authenticate this user? Do you use windows authentication? I am not sure about this but you can try HttpContext.Current.User = Thread.CurrentPrincipal; If you want to perform more advanced windows login operations you have to resort to DllImport, like the following example that logs a user to a AD domain: [DllImport("C:\\Windows\\System32\\advapi32.dll")] public static extern bool LogonUser ( String lpszUsername, String lpszDomain, String lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, out int phToken ); bool LoginUser( String Login, String Password, String Domain) { try { int token1; bool loggedOn = LogonUser( Login, Domain, Password, 2, 0, out token1); IntPtr token2 = new IntPtr(token1); WindowsIdentity wi = new WindowsIdentity( token2 ); WindowsPrincipal wp = new WindowsPrincipal( wi ); Thread.CurrentPrincipal = wp; HttpContext.Current.User = wp; return true; } catch(Exception exp) { return false; } } Hope this helps.
