Difference between ASP.NET MVC and ASP.NET Core

ASP.Net Core 1.0 is a new framework going to launch soon( on June 27, 2016) . Currently in available as RC2.

The main difference between the ASP.Net Framework (till 4.6) and ASP.Net Core1.0, is you can develop "cross" platform ASP.Net Applications using ASP.Net Core1.0. That means now you can host your ASP.Net applications on other servers also, like Linux, Mac OS. This is the big leap for MS. Also, ASP.Net Core1.0 is completely open source. After 14 years, ASP.Net team completely revamped from scratch.
