Default printer setting is changed in windows.

Hello Team,

The system default print setting will be changing when my customer has used to print a document in my application. Attached the screenshot for the printer setting default screen.

I have used the below code to print my documents in my project, I need to use the below code and print my documents without change the system default printer setting.

In my project, I will print the image in the below code. Any have an idea please share how to print without change the system default print setting.

Hey @Rajapriya

Try changing the calling of the printer settings like below
Comment the line no 4 and write just before the print function
pd.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = LabelPrinter.Text; //Your Printer Name Here, make sure it matches with the printer names that were installed in your PC

pd.Print();
You can get a list of installed printers using the below snippet
var printers = System.Drawing.Printing.PrinterSettings.InstalledPrinters;

When we use the object of PrinterSetting.PrinterName; // it will give you the system default printer name and he is asking to put the selected printername (user selection based).

That's because you are changing the defaults explicitly in code. On line 8 you are getting the default page settings from the printer settings that were copied from the default printer settings. If you want to change the defaults for all pages, but not the system settings, then set the properties on the DefaultPageSettings of PrintDocument, not the DefaultPageSettings of the PrinterSettings.
//pd.PrinterSettings.DefaultPageSettings.Margins = new Margins(0, 0, 0, 0); //Changes default margins for the printer settings

pd.DefaultPageSettings.Margins = new Margins(0, 0, 0, 0); //Changes margins for all pages of the current print document

What if you set to default printer after user has finished printing. means , can't you reset printer to default after print();
pd.Print();
rinterSettings settings = new PrinterSettings();
pd.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = settings.PrinterName;
Yes, it seems illogical to me also ,but test and see what happens.

I no need to get and print the system default printer in my code.

Actually, I have displayed all the printer name list in my project and user can select which printer to print the document in my project.

The problem is my project(above code) will change the default printer(which is the user-selected printer name in my project) on the computer. I need to print without changing the default printer on the computer.

Example:

In project:
- listed all the system printer names in the drop-down, user can select which printer needs to print the document in my project.

Printer setting:
Above screenshot based explanation: Use has selected the ‘Microsoft XPS Document Writer’ printer in my project for printing, now the user will print the document in my project, the computer default printer(Microsoft Printer to PDF is the default) is changed into ‘Microsoft XPS Document Writer’ is the default printer.

I hope you can understand my problem, Thanks for the help, let me share the ideas for this.

Hi use below code to get default Printer Name.
PrinterSettings settings = new PrinterSettings();
pd.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = settings.PrinterName; //Gets Default Printer Name

I think the problem is in windows 10 . Windows 10 now changes the default printer to the last used one automatically.
so better is to use default printer for printing to avoid this.
PrinterSettings settings = new PrinterSettings();
string = settings.PrinterName;
pd.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = defaultPrinterName; //Printer Name
There might be any better solution , but for now this can do the job.
