Converting excel sheet to dataset

Hi,

I have a excel sheet. i want to convert it to a dataset.
if i am using oledbconnection its giving error.
so i add a reference "using Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel; "
Then how to make a list collection from this excel?

First of all, you need to read the excel file onto a DataSet. Then it will be easy to write to database. Please refer the article how to read excel file into Dataset. http://csharp.net-informations.com/excel/csharp-excel-oledb.htm

First regarding the reference that you additionally added, that is a reference to a MS Excel's interop in .NET and what you can do with it is literally open your excel file in MS Excel and do whatever MS Excel can do with it.

As you can presume that is a bit overhead, you are programmatically opening an application and then activating certain actions on that application.
Instead you can read this article about exporting an Excel file into a DataSet object, what it does is it exports each worksheet as a separate DataTable with this .NET's utility for Excel file.
