Actually most certifications do not demonstrate the ones technical skills level and a lot of employers know that. This is because you can find a whole bunch of certification exam dumps on the web and you can pass it just by learning from those dumps.
OK it is true that for some exams this is not the case, but for the most of them it is.

From my experience the true benefit of certifications is the bargaining chip. You see when the company is competing for a certain highly cost enterprise project than this kind of stuff is taken into account as well. Also the sales department can emphasize this when needed.
So in short the certifications have benefits if total number of it (from each developer) in the company is high enough ("high enough" is a relative term which depends on the total number of employees).

When I was involved in the hiring process I personally didn't put much consideration into ones certifications list. Of course I would read them, but my focus was always on the projects and work he did. I feel like this is common... but then again maybe I'm wrong...

Regardless of that if you want to enhance your resume I would recommend you to create some personal projects which you find interesting and list those in your resume. For the interview itself I would recommend you to practice with some coding tests, for example try these programming aptitude tests from TestDome.

And last if you do have a chance to take an certification free of charge then do it, it certainly want hurt to have it (here you can find some free programming certificates).
But if it would cost you then I personally believe you can spend that money better.
For example if you are interested in web development, then a better thing would be to buy some small VPS and you practice your administrators skills (every full stack web developers should know the basics) and you host your personal projects there.

It is impotant because ,if you cleared the cirtification exam then you can apply to top MNC company with showing your experience and that experience gives you MS Cirtificate as well as it show your depth knowledge on that subject.
