Browser's back button causes double entries on database.

Hello,

I have a webform which inserts data on db (as new record) when submitted.

My problem is, when the user clicks on browser's back button he gets the form supplemented as it was before submission. If he clicks on submit button, the form will be inserted as a new record on db.

Any ideas how to prevent that?

Can you provide you complete code ? including Master Page (both aspx and cs) then child page both aspx and cs files. So that i can look into into and try to fix a bit faster.

Yes, "clear content" functionality does not works

Still won't work. Disabling enter key works fine both ways.

Did you meant that "clear content" functionality not works?

Try the below code, i have changed a bit, just copy and paste it, hope it will work:

Yes, I have added the code into child page.
I apologise cph is inside page_load that was my typo mistake, I should post the complete page_load from the begining.

I don't know why, you are using the below 2 lines of code outside the "Page_Load" event, which should be inside in "Page_Load" event like my previous post:

ContentPlaceHolder cph = new ContentPlaceHolder();
// find the content page
cph = (ContentPlaceHolder)Master.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1");

Have you tried to debug the application? Also i hope that you wrote the the code inside the "Child" pages not in the Master page's codebehind. If possible, provide your master page and child pages markup as well as code behing.

((DropDownList)ctrl).ClearSelection();
clearInputs(ctrl.Controls);
}

What you have tried is, you want to clear the contents of the control while the page load itself.
I guess you are using master pages If so, your code will be like this:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
ContentPlaceHolder cph = new ContentPlaceHolder();
// find the content page
cph = (ContentPlaceHolder)Master.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1");
clearInputs(cph.Controls);
}
}

You must first find the content placeholder then you pass it to the "clearInputs" function.

Have you used "IsPostBack" property in your page like below:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if(Page.IsPostBack)
{

// Save the records in DB
// Place your save logic here
}
else
{
// It will execute when the back button is clicked and when the page is loaded.
}
}
